Ceiling Fan Installation in Houston, TX

Houston summers don’t negotiate. From Memorial Day through October, your air conditioning runs almost constantly – and if you’re not running ceiling fans alongside it, you’re paying more than you need to. A properly installed ceiling fan lets you raise your thermostat by 4°F without any loss of comfort, which adds up fast on a Houston electric bill.

Done Right Houston installs and replaces ceiling fans for homeowners across Houston Heights, Montrose, River Oaks, Spring Branch, and the surrounding areas. We’re a handyman service – not an electrical contractor – which means you get professional, quality installation at handyman rates, without the dispatch fees and hourly minimums that come with calling a licensed electrician for a straightforward fan swap.

Our founder spent over two decades building and supervising more than 400 homes across the Houston area. Every ceiling fan we install gets the same attention – the right mounting box, correct wiring connections, balanced blades, and no shortcuts.

WHAT WE DO

Ceiling Fan Installation & Replacement in Houston

We handle two types of ceiling fan jobs:

New Ceiling Fan Installation

If you have an existing ceiling box with wiring already in place - whether from a previous light fixture, ceiling fan, or junction box - we can install a new ceiling fan in that location. We mount the bracket, hang the motor housing, connect the wiring, attach the blades and light kit, pair the remote or wall control, and test everything before we leave.

Ceiling Fan Replacement

Replacing an old, broken, or outdated ceiling fan is one of the most common jobs we run across Houston. We remove your existing fan, install your new one, and take the old unit away with us. Most replacements take 45 to 75 minutes. Whether you're upgrading from a basic builder fan in a Heights bungalow to something more fitting, or swapping out a wobbling fan in a Meyerland master bedroom, the process is clean and fast.

What's Included in Every Installation

Full fan assembly – motor housing, blade brackets, blades, light kit, and canopy

Secure mounting to existing ceiling box or fan-rated brace if the current box isn’t fan-rated

Cover plate installation

Blade balance check – we test at all speeds before packing up; wobble gets fixed before we leave

Remote or wall switch pairing, including programming if your fan uses RF or Wi-Fi control

Cleanup – we take the packaging and box with us

Old fan removal and disposal (replacement jobs)

Signs It's Time to Replace Your Ceiling Fan in Houston

Not sure if your fan needs replacing or just repairing? Here are the clear signs it’s time for a new one:

Wobbling or shaking at any speed – blade imbalance that can’t be corrected by balancing kits usually means the motor mount or blades are warped

Grinding, squeaking, or rattling noise – bearing wear in older fans doesn’t improve; it gets worse

Fan runs slowly at all settings or stops responding to controls – motor winding failure or capacitor issue, typically not worth repairing on an older unit

Fan is more than 10–12 years old – motor efficiency drops significantly after a decade; newer fans move more air on less electricity

Your current fan doesn’t have a light kit and you want one – swapping it out is faster and cleaner than retrofitting

Visible rust or corrosion – especially common on fans in Houston bathrooms or covered patios given the humidity

What to Have Ready Before We Arrive

Done Right Houston provides handyman installation service – you supply the fan, we do the installation. This keeps costs down and lets you choose exactly the model, finish, and style you want. Here’s what to have ready:

Your ceiling fan – we’ll verify all parts are included at the start of the job; missing hardware is a common delay

Confirmed existing wiring or ceiling box at the install location – if you’re not sure, we can check when we arrive

Access to your circuit breaker – we’ll cut power to the circuit during installation

Any preferences on fan direction, speed settings, or remote programming – we’ll walk through it with you before we leave

How Much Does Ceiling Fan Installation Cost in Houston?

Ceiling fan installation cost in Houston varies based on a few factors. We give you a clear price before we start – no surprise add-ons.

What affects the cost:

Replacements are generally quicker since the old fan is already in place; new installs may need a fan-rated mounting box if the existing box isn’t rated for fan weight

Number of fans – booking multiple fans in one visit reduces the per-fan cost since travel and setup is shared across the job

Ceiling height – standard 8–10ft ceilings are no issue; ceilings above 12ft require extended equipment setup

Fan complexity – a standard 5-blade fan with a simple light kit takes less time than a large dual-motor or designer fan with multiple components and separate controls

Fill out the estimate form with the number of fans, whether it’s a new install or replacement, and any specifics about your ceiling or fan model. We’ll respond within 24 hours with a clear quote.

SERVICE AREAS

Ceiling Fan Installation Service Areas in Houston

We serve Houston’s inner-loop and near-northwest neighborhoods. Whether you’re in a Heights craftsman, a Montrose bungalow, a River Oaks estate, or a Spring Branch ranch, we know the housing stock in these neighborhoods and what comes with it – older boxes, high ceilings, and in some cases existing fans that haven’t been touched in 20 years.

Ceiling Fan Installation in Houston FAQs

How long does it take to install a ceiling fan?

Most installations take 45 minutes to 90 minutes. Standard replacements run on the faster end; new installs on the slower end. Complex fans with separate remote receivers, multiple blade brackets, or non-standard mounting situations can take up to 2 hours. We’ll give you a realistic time estimate when you book.

Not if existing wiring and a junction box are already in place. A handyman with residential appliance installer license can legally and safely install or replace a ceiling fan in Texas when the ceiling already has a wired box. A licensed electrician is only needed if new wiring needs to be run – for example, if you’re adding a fan in a spot where there’s never been a fixture before.

Yes. Ceiling fan installation is one of the most common licensed handyman jobs in Houston. Done Right Houston installs and replaces ceiling fans across the city daily. We handle standard fans, fans with light kits, remote-controlled and Wi-Fi-enabled models, and fans with separate wall controls – all correctly and safely.

Cost depends on whether it’s a new install or replacement, the fan’s complexity, ceiling height, and how many fans you need done in one visit. We don’t have a flat rate posted because we’d rather give you an accurate quote for your specific job. Fill out the estimate form and we’ll get back to you within 24 hours with a clear price before anything is scheduled.

No – you source the fan, we install it. This keeps costs lower and lets you choose exactly the model, finish, and size you want. We work with any brand: Hunter, Hampton Bay, Minka Aire, Progress Lighting, Westinghouse, Fanimation, and others. Just have it ready when we arrive and we’ll take it from there.

We can’t run new wiring – that requires a licensed electrician. If the install location has no existing ceiling box or wiring, you’ll need to have an electrician run the circuit first. Once the box and wiring are in place, we come in and handle the fan installation.

Yes. For replacement jobs, removing the old fan is included – we take it with us. You don’t need to do anything with it beforehand.

We install fans on standard to moderately high ceilings – typically up to 12 feet without issue. Very high vaulted ceilings above 14–15 feet may require additional equipment. Mention your ceiling height when you fill out the estimate form and we’ll let you know upfront.

As many as you need. Booking multiple fans in a single visit is more cost-effective – we’re already on site, so the per-fan cost is lower. If you’re outfitting multiple rooms or a new home, let us know when you book so we can allocate the right amount of time.

Wobbling usually comes from one of three things: unbalanced blades, loose blade brackets, or an issue with the mounting. Loose brackets and blade balance can often be fixed without replacement. If the motor mount is worn or the fan is more than 10 years old and wobbling at all speeds, replacement is typically the better investment. We can assess it when we arrive and give you an honest recommendation.
